Personal Training at Home in Altrincham: How It Works

home gym with minimum equipment

You don’t have to train in a commercial gym to work with a personal trainer.

If you have exercise equipment at home but aren’t sure how to get the most out of it, I offer home personal training in Altrincham and the surrounding area. I come to you and build your sessions around your goals, experience and available equipment.

You’ll need to provide the equipment—I don’t bring weights, benches or other training equipment with me. Before booking, we’ll discuss what you have and whether it’s suitable for the training you want to do.

Who is home personal training for?

Home training can suit people who already have equipment but would benefit from structure, technique guidance and accountability.

You might have a home gym that gets used less often than you intended. You might train regularly but find yourself doing the same exercises with the same weights. Or you might prefer learning in your own space before feeling confident enough to train elsewhere.

It can also make fitting training into your day more practical. There’s no journey to the gym or waiting for someone to finish using the equipment you need.

That doesn’t automatically make home training the best choice for everyone. The important question is whether your space and equipment allow us to work towards your goals.

What equipment do you need?

You don’t necessarily need a fully equipped home gym, but what you have will influence what we can do.

Useful equipment could include:

  • Dumbbells or kettlebells.

  • Resistance bands.

  • An exercise bench.

  • A barbell, suitable plates and a rack.

  • A cable machine or other home-gym equipment.

You don’t need everything on that list. We’ll look at your starting point and what you want to achieve.

For example, someone learning the basics may have different equipment needs from an experienced lifter trying to increase their squat or bench press. Equipment also needs to offer enough scope to keep challenging you as you progress.

Send me a list or a few photos of your setup before booking. I can then give you an honest view of whether home sessions would be suitable. You don’t need to buy more equipment before having that conversation.

What happens during a session?

Before we start, we’ll discuss your goals, training history, preferences and anything relevant to how you exercise.

The session itself will depend on what you need help with. That could include:

  • Learning how to perform exercises.

  • Finding suitable starting weights.

  • Building confidence with your equipment.

  • Following a structured strength workout.

  • Reviewing technique and progressing your training.

You won’t be expected to already know what you’re doing. Equally, if you’ve trained for years, we can focus on the areas where coaching would be most useful.

The aim is to give your training direction and help you understand what you’re doing and why.

What about training between sessions?

If you want support with your independent workouts too, we can discuss a programme built around your home setup.

That gives you a plan for the days when I’m not there: which exercises to do, the sets and reps to aim for, and how to record your progress.

We can discuss whether individual sessions or ongoing coaching would make the most sense for you.

Home training or gym-based personal training?

Home training offers privacy, convenience and access to your own equipment.

Gym-based training gives us a wider choice of equipment, which may be useful depending on your goals and how much equipment you have at home. I also coach at PureGym Altrincham if that would suit you better.

There’s no need to decide before getting in touch. We can talk through both options.
